New Alan Wake interview reveals TV show structure

It's been over three years since the first announcement about Alan Wake, the action-adventure thriller game from developer Remedy. You would think that they would have a lot to say about the game by now but a new Q&A over at 1Up.com with its writer Sam Lake says little that is new about the title

Lake states, "Alan Wake remains true to the original vision of the game, but we are still fine-tuning different elements, making sure that this will be a best possible realization of that vision." He does say that the game is structured like a season 1 DVD of a TV show with separate episodes, cliffhanger endings and a supporting cast around the title character. We can expect to see a new trailer for the game in the next few days as Remedy created a new one for the Finnish theatrical release of the Max Payne movie.

First Strong Bad Episode 3 screenshots are rockin'!

Telltale Games's third and latest episode in its Strong Bad's Cool Game For Attractive People is set for release later this month and the developer wants you to know it's about about ROCK. Episode 3 is titled Baddest of the Bands and we have the first screenshots to show you how "bad" it is (and we mean good when we say "bad")

So what's "bad" about it. Here's the description: "Rock and roll! Hurting for cash, Strong Bad sets out to dominate the Battle Royale of the Bands. Can he rule the stage and win the big prize? Or will he be drowned out by the competition? Find out in this high-voltage episode -- with special guest stars, rock gods LIMOZEEN!." As usual Episode 3 will be sold directly via Telltale for the PC for $8.95 and a demo will likely be released as well.

First new Alan Wake screenshot in, like, forever, released

Earlier this week we reported on rumors that Finland movie audiences would get to see a new trailer for Remedy's long-in-development action-adventure game Alan Wake before showings of the movie adaptation of Remedy's Max Payne. Now the same Finnish web site that broke that story has also posted up an image from the trailer, which represents the first new screenshot from the game in over two years.

In addition the web site has posted up a podcast with Remedy team members as they talk about the game publicly for the first time in over two years as well. It's all in Finnish of course but Videogaming247 has some details on what was revealed including why it''s taking so long to finish (apparently the team is relatively small). Naturally a release date for the Microsoft published game is not yet available.

Ride to Hell with this teaser trailer

Check out this short teaser trailer for Ride to Hell, an upcoming motorcycle adventure game. Why the trailer uses Born to be Wild as music instead of Highway to Hell is anyone's guess. Fans of motorcycle games vaguely reminiscent of Full Throttle might want to keep an eye on this one.

Boot Disk: Fallout

Click the Boot Disk logo to read this week's column.)

As the typical five-year lifespan of a console winds toward its conclusion, gamers inevitably pose questions of backwards-compatibility. They wonder, as is only logical, whether the dozens, hundreds, or thousands of dollars they invested in their gaming library will be relevant when the new generation of hardware emerges. Sometimes, as with the Xbox 360's update-oriented system, most last-gen titles will still function properly. Other times, as with the PlayStation 3's confusing array of SKUs, the answer alternates between "maybe," "hopefully," and "who knows"?

Despite occasional hardware hiccups and OS woes, the PC platform has managed to retain its awe-inspiring catalogue of titles, thanks in large part to an active community of uber-geeks intent on doing whatever must be done to ensure that disk-based classics don't fade into obscurity.

Welcome to Boot Disk, a weekly column dedicated to covering PC gaming's impressive and length history. Every Tuesday, we'll examine one of the platform's many titles that still lend themselves to eminence five, 10, 15, or decades' worth of years later. This week's Boot Disk shines a spotlight on the original Fallout, Black Isle Studios' iconic post-apocalyptic RPG, which is available at Good Old Games, the home of classic computer games.
